Auditions for Pippin, The Holiday Cabaret and Our Town workshop for The Nebraska Repertory Theatre.

Auditions: Friday, November 22, 2019

Callbacks: Saturday, November 23, 2019

Roles in Pippin are open for AEA, EMC, students and community members.

Roles in The Holiday Cabaret and Our Town Workshop are available to students and community members.

Prepare:              If singing, prepare 16 bars of music in the musical style of PIPPIN, and a one-minute contemporary monologue.

If not singing, prepare two contrasting one-minute monologues.


Nebraska Repertory Theatre operates as an Actors’ Equity Association Small Professional Theatre, Tier 8. Minimum AEA actor salary is $601 per week. Transportation and housing to and from Lincoln is provided.

Nebraska Rep pays community actors a minimum of $200 per week.



Leading Player: Vocal Range: Gb3 – F5, Any Ethnicity. The ultimate ‘ring leader.’ Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. Excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.

Pippin: Vocal Range: G2 – C5, Any Ethnicity, our story’s young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.

Lewis: Vocal Range: E3 – Ab4, Any ethnicity, the son of Charles and Fastrada. More brawn than brains. The perfect soldier, who loves Lewis above all else.

Fastrada: Vocal Range: G3 – C5, Any Ethnicity, Pippin’s conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.

Berthe: Vocal Range: E3 – C5, Any Ethnicity, Pippin’s saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.

Catherine: Vocal Range: G3 – D5, Any Ethnicity, a widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.

Theo: Catherine’s son. Looks 7-12 years old.

Charlemagne: This role has been cast.

Ensemble: Male/Female, Any Ethnicity, All Ages. Strong Dancers. Charlemagne’s Army, Monks, Nobility, Peasants, The Players.

FEATURED SINGERS: 4-6 soloists, Any Ethnicity, All Ages.

The Our Town Workshop

STAGE MANAGER (any ethnicity, any age): The bridge between the audience and the action of the play.

EMILY WEBB (female, any ethnicity, 18-30): Ages from 16 to 28 during the play.

MR. WEBB (male, any ethnicity, 50+): Emily’s father and editor of the town newspaper.

MRS. WEBB (female, any ethnicity, 50+): Emily’s mother.

GEORGE GIBBS (male, any ethnicity, 18-30): Ages from 16 to 28 during the play.

MR. GIBBS (male, any ethnicity, 50+): George’s father and the town physician.

MRS. GIBBS (female, any ethnicity, 50+): George’s mother.

SIMON STIMSON (male, any ethnicity, 30+): The choirmaster.

MRS. SOAMES (female, any ethnicity, 30+): The town gossip
