Auditions for Documentary Theatre Project at Community Players

Community Players in Beatrice, in tandem with a team of award-winning documentary
filmmakers, will hold auditions for a documentary theatre project examining the murder of Helen
Wilson and its aftermath. Auditions will be held April 14 & 15 at the Players Theater, 412 Ella
St., Beatrice, with callbacks taking place on April 17.

The story of what happened to Helen Wilson and the subsequent events have impacted
Beatrice and the region for more than 30 years. Community Players is collaborating on the
creation of an original theatrical production which explores these events. Based on court records,
investigative materials, as well as news reports and first-hand accounts, this documentary play
(written and directed by Cecilia Rubino) is a unique way for the community to understand and
reflect on this historic and divisive case from a fresh and collaborative perspective. The various
stages of this play will also be filmed by a camera crew as a part of a television documentary
series directed by Nanfu Wang.

The show requires an ensemble made up of 5 women and 8 men. Everyone auditioning
must be comfortable with appearing on camera and will be required to sign an appearance
release to be in the project. Those auditioning will be asked to do a cold reading from the script.
Due to limited audition spots and COVID safety procedures, interested actors should complete
the audition form on the theatre’s website (www.beatricecommunityplayers.com) before having
the opportunity to schedule an appointment. Priorities will be given to those who fill out the
form first. The show is set to tentatively perform June 11-13.

Community Players auditions are open to anyone, and there is no charge to participate in
the cast or crew of a show. Individuals interested in participating in a production crew, such as
set painting, lights, set construction, costume, or makeup are encouraged to contact the theater or
fill out an online volunteer application form at the theater’s web site.
