Lincoln Community Playhouse is holding auditions for The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 on March 21 and 22 at the Playhouse. Roles are available for five male-identifying and five female-identifying actors, age 16 and above. Auditions will consist of reading from the script and actors should show up at 7:00 p.m. on one of the auditions nights. The play is not a musical, but four of the characters sing two short music excerpts. Performances are May 5-7 and 12-14. Character information is available at lincolnplayhouse.com.
The show is a hysterical mashup of mystery, farce, show biz satire, and a WWII spy thriller all in the style of a 1940’s movie comedy. A group of theatre people meet in a remote mansion during a snowstorm with the phone lines dead to do a backer’s audition for a new musical. The last time this group was together, the “Stagedoor Slasher” was murdering cast members. As the evening progresses, murder is once again in the air.
Morrie Enders will direct with Michelle Zinke as stage manager, costume design by Hannah Hansen, lighting design by Caroline Nowak, and technical direction by Lauren Spilinek.
