The Lied Center for Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska, is announcing auditions in Lincoln for the Grow a Show Musical Theatre Workshop. Auditions will be on Sunday, August 18th from 5-8pm at the Lied Center for performances on September 9th and 10th, 2024.
We currently seek actors/actresses and singers for multiple roles for the workshop. We are casting two staged readings – new musicals TALES FROM THE COMIC BOOK CRACKDOWN by Ben Dickow and Ray Hedgpeth (directed by Hank Stratton) and THE GOD MACHINE by Matthew McCollum (directed by Ann Marie Pollard.)
This is an exciting opportunity for those with a passion for musical theatre who are looking for the opportunity to be a part of a nationally recognized event. The nature of this workshop allows for a condensed rehearsal process, so it’s also a wonderful opportunity for singers and actors who cannot usually commit to long-term rehearsals. This is not a compensated engagement.
Those who wish to audition should prepare 32 bars of a contemporary up tempo or folk musical theatre song, and may also be asked to read from provided sides. An accompanist will be provided at the audition. There are multiple roles for people aged 18 and up available and we strongly embrace diversity in our casting.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Grow a Show Musical Theatre Workshop is a prestigious event that puts national focus on local talent, and places directors and casts together with emerging musical theatre writing teams to create a staged reading of an existing, pre-selected new work. A 50-minute staged reading of the new musical is then performed in front of a panel of Broadway and industry professionals for constructive feedback. The reading and feedback session occurs in front of a live audience and is the cornerstone of the two- day workshop, which focuses on supporting national and international musical theatre writing teams in a nurturing environment. This year’s panelists include the co-creator of Ice Age and regular panelist for the Los Angeles ASCAP New Musicals Workshop, Kevin Bannerman, and Tony award-winning music director, composer, lyricist, director, producer and arranger, Jason Michael Webb, best known for his work on MJ the Musical and The Color Purple. Robert Freedman, best known for his teleplays for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows and for his Tony-winning book and lyrics of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.
