LINCOLN COMMUNITY PLAYHOUSE  HOLDS AUDITIONS FOR WORLD PREMIERE PLAY, THE CHINA SHOP, ON SEPTEMBER 23 & 24

Lincoln Community Playhouse will hold auditions for the world premiere production of The China Shop by Richard Manley on September 23 and 24 at 7:00pm. Interested actors can access audition monologues and sign up for a day at lincolnplayhouse.com. Auditions will consist of reading one of the monologues (the monologue does not need to be memorized). Performances are November 8-10, & 15-17 in the Studio Theatre.

Jamie Bullins will direct.

Roles are available for three female-identifying actors (ages 30’s -late 60’s) and three male-identifying actors (ages 30’s -late 60’s).

The playwright describes the show as a “literate comedy” and offers this synopsis: Ending years of self-exile following the death of his wife, semi-famous poet Derby Walters quietly accepts a house-sitting invitation for a Manhattan Co-Op. Wanting to inconspicuously slip back into society at his own pace, Derby is repeatedly thwarted by an inquisitive female neighbor, her pushy mother, snobby members of the Co-Op Board and a lawyer determined to have him thrown out of the building for what seems like a murky past. His hopes for privacy fail miserably, but for one infuriating exception, who forces the overly intellectual Derby to recognize that happiness is often a matter of recognizing the potential of “matches, struck unexpectedly in the dark.”

The China Shop is presented as part of the American Association of Community Theatre NewPlay Fest and is a world premiere. Richard Manley will attend some rehearsals and the premiere. The script, with Lincoln Community Playhouse production credits, will later be published by Dramatic Publishing.
