Lincoln Community Playhouse presents The Sondheim Tribute Revue

Lincoln Community Playhouse’s Radio Active Players will present The Sondheim Tribute Revue on September 27, 28, and 29 in the Studio Theatre. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. General admission tickets are $7.00 and should be reserved at lincolnplayhouse.com or by calling the box office at 402-789-7529 between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

The performance will include songs from Stephen Sondheim musicals such as Follies, Sweeney Todd, Company, Anyone Can Whistle, A Little Night Music, Sunday in the Park with George, Merrily We Roll Along, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. As with all the Playhouse senior productions, actors will be using scripts as the performance is rehearsed but not memorized.

The cast includes Vena Beth Alesio, Lynette Boyce, Graeme Cooper, Al Davis, Robert Doxtator, MJ Dunn, Carla Fetch, Margo Gamet, Sue Hedrick, Joan Hudson, Danny Johnson, Karen Joyce, Ken Killman, Pat Kohl, Carol Meyer, Margy Ryan, Tom Schmitz, David Tien, Jeanne Wenz, and David Weyhrauch.

Gordon Cantiello directs with Kaleb Wilkening as music director. Sponsored by The Legacy and Nebraska Lottery and supported by a grant from the Lincoln Arts Council.

The Stephen Sondheim Society notes that Sondheim was “widely acknowledged as the most innovative, most influential and most important composer and lyricist in modern Broadway history. For more than 50 years, he has set an unsurpassed standard of brilliance and artistic integrity in musical theatre. His accolades include an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer) including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre, multiple Grammy Awards, multiple Drama Desk awards and a Pulitzer Prize.”
