Shadows & Light is Ready to Step Into the Spotlight!

Shadows & Light: Untold Stories is a community partnership project of Angels Theater Company and Families Inspiring Families.

“No one ever wanted to hear my story before……”

Shadows & Light: Untold Stories is the culmination of a year-long project designed to lift and empower the voices of people in our community through the creative and transformative process of turning personal narratives into live theater.  Our hope is that audiences will connect and see we are all larger than one story – every story and every life contain shared healing and hope. As a community we help one another walk through the shadows and together step into light.

The creative team of Director Judith Hart, Music Director Kellyn Wooten, Movement Director Daniel Kubert, and Scenic and Lighting Designer Dan Stratman  bring out the best in the ensemble of 10 performers who weave ten stories together with movement and song.  The production is a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit – not only in the personal trauma at the center of each story, but also because of the limitations and restrictions prescribed by the COVID pandemic.

Social distancing  plays a big part in the staging of Shadows & Light.  Platforms are arranged to give actors a 6′ separation from each other and the room is set up to have a 15′ separation between the performers and the audience.

The acting ensemble includes: Gabby Ayala, Deirdre Barney, Carrie Bartholomew, Shelbi Bretz, Kathy Disney, Andrea Gassman, Lauren George, Kristine Kapustka, Wendy Salinas & Jacoby Vann.

Performances are held in the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theatre located just north of 11th & Q Streets on the UNL campus.   Performances are scheduled for Friday  – Sunday, July 24 – 26 ,with 7:30 shows on Friday and Saturday and a 2 PM matinee on Sunday, July 26.
