The Voice of The Prairie at the Lofte Community Theatre!

The Lofte Community Theatre, located in Manley, NE, will stage, John Olive’s, The Voice of the Prairie, May 31st – June 9th.

In the early 1890s, traveling storytellers were the voices of the prairie, telling the tall tales of a country being built and expanding west. These storytellers traveled from town to town, telling tales and providing entertainment. Davey Quinn is a young boy traveling with an old hobo named Poppy. And several years later, Davey, now known as David Quinn, is a farmer who is discovered by a radio entrepreneur while was telling the stories of the traveling story-men. David tells stories of people like Poppy. He talks about Frankie, a blind girl who he rescued from a cruel father. His stories become famous and Davey himself becomes known as The Voice of the Prairie.

As the play goes on the tales become intertwined, as stories are told within stories. While the entire play is fiction, it demonstrates how fiction mimics and even magnifies reality; how stories transform and change over time until the storyteller is taking liberties, and telling lies, but creating a more vivid truth and a more fascinating story.

Come and experience stories of love and learning, the tall tales of adventure and excitement and all told through the eyes of David “the first farmer on Nebraska to tell a story on the radio.” You’ll see Davey become David, and deals with the ever changing landscape of the Nation, and see what ever happened to the young blind girl known as Frankie.

The Lofte cast includes Ken Snyder, Peyton Banks, Mark Fahey, James Nygren, Alyssa Riha, Gary Williams, and Erin Jenkins.
