UNL’s Theatrix Opens 2019-20 Season with Smokefall

Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, begins its 2019-2020 season with Smokefall, written by Noah Haidle and directed by University of Nebraska student, Ethan Greenlee.

“Magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you’ve ever seen. Fetuses swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, a daughter eats dirt and doesn’t speak, a father is about to drive away and never return, and there’s an apple tree growing through the walls of the house. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, SMOKEFALL explores the lives of a family in a lyrical treatise on the fragility of life and the power of love.” (Dramatists Play Service).

Theatrix’s production of Smokefall is directed by junior Theatre Directing and Management major Ethan Greenlee, and features performances by junior Theatre Performance major, Arin Turnage, sophomore Theatre Performance major Claire McClannan, freshman Theatre Performance major Daniel Darter, sophomore Theatre Performance major Brett Gaffney, and UNL alumnus John Burkhart.

Costume design for the production is by first year Costume Design graduate student Hali Liles. Lighting and sound are designed by senior Design/Technical Theatre major Jordan Taylor Thomas. Stephanie Locke, a senior Design/Technical Theatre major, is the scenic designer and props master, with the help of her assistant, Freshman Design/Technical Theatre major Savannah Greger. Malin Hayden, junior Directing and Management/Theatre Performance double major, will stage manage.
